Synopsis et détails
Sam Wheat, cadre dans une banque dévouée aux affaires, vit heureux avec Molly Jensen, sa compagne, sculpteur de talent. Un soir, au retour d'un spectacle, Sam s'effondre, victime des balles de Willie Lopez, un malfrat, et meurt dans les bras de Molly. Son fantôme va rapidement s'apercevoir que c'est son meilleur ami, Carl Bruner, qui a commandité le meurtre. Impliqué dans un trafic de blanchiment d'argent avec la mafia, Carl savait que Sam découvrirait tôt ou tard le pot aux roses. Profitant de sa disparition et du désespoir de Molly, Carl entreprend de courtiser la jolie veuve. Incapable de communiquer avec sa bien-aimée, le fantôme de Sam assiste, impuissant, à ces démarches écoeurantes, tandis que Willie Lopez entend terminer son contrat en supprimant la jeune femme.
